Have you ever set a big goal that you were really excited about, only to have it fade over time until you just give up on it?

There are a lot of reasons that people give up on big goals. But that can change with a plan.

So, here’s my advice on how any of us can take our goals and dreams and make them a reality… no matter how big

Step 1: Begin With the End in Mind

As Stephen Covey said, begin with the end in mind.

Obviously, you have to have a goal to begin with.

What is it you want?

Who is the future self you want to become?

Go through the process of setting your goals.

Then identify your ‘why’ or purpose for each goal.

Then, determine what you need to do to achieve those goals.

It’s important to know where you are going and to be able to visualize the goal, but now you need to figure out what you need to do to make it happen.

Begin by breaking it down monthly. To reach your big goal, what mile markers can you create? What do you need to accomplish month by month?

Rather than putting all of your focus on the big goal which may seem so far away, each month you have a smaller outcome to focus on.

As you consistently achieve these smaller monthly goals, they will compound and help you achieve the bigger end goal.

Step 3: Important vs Urgent

This is a big step. This is where accountability comes in and I strongly encourage you to get an accountability partner or join an accountability group to help keep you on track.

Most of us have a task list a mile long and we are adding to it daily.

It’s very easy to spend all of your time focused on those urgent tasks.
